Warszawa Zachodnia — the main bus station

Warszawa Zachodnia (Dworzec Autobusowy Warszawa Zachodnia) is the capital’s largest bus station. Buses leave here for Ukraine, the Baltic states and other European countries. The building dates from 1980 and looks modest; plans for a new station have not been built yet. In the evening, when buses to Ukraine depart, the platforms get crowded.

  • Next door is the rebuilt Warszawa Zachodnia railway station: trains to the centre (Śródmieście and Centralna stations) take a few minutes.
  • Inside there are ticket desks, a waiting room, cafés and shops.
  • Arrive 30–40 minutes before departure so you can find your platform calmly.

Metro Młociny

In the north of Warsaw, at the end of metro line M1, is the Metro Młociny bus terminal. Some intercity and international services stop here. The plus: the metro is right there, about 20 minutes to the centre. The minus: the stop is cramped and waiting in bad weather is uncomfortable.

Lubelska Street and other stops

Some carriers pick up passengers on Lubelska Street near Warszawa Wschodnia station in the Praga district. There are also stops at Chopin Airport and at metro stations in the south of the city. Stop names on tickets are usually in Polish, so look them up on a map in advance.

How to find the right boarding point

  1. Open your ticket and find the exact stop name and address.
  2. Check it on a map, ideally the day before.
  3. For city transport buy a ZTM ticket from machines, in an app or by tapping a bank card on the bus or tram.
  4. Save the carrier’s phone number: if your bus is late, ask the dispatcher.

If your bus arrives at night

Many buses from Ukraine reach Warsaw early in the morning or late at night. The waiting room at Warszawa Zachodnia stays open overnight, and the first trains to the centre from the neighbouring railway station run from around 5 am. At night ZTM night buses with an N in the number run across the city, and taxis are easy to book in apps. If you have a long wait for a morning train or flight, staying at the station is often easier than going into the centre and back.

Popular routes from Warsaw

The most popular trips from Warsaw are to Kyiv, Lviv, Lutsk, Rivne and Ternopil. In the other direction, Kyiv — Warsaw and Lviv — Warsaw are the busiest. Carriers on these routes include Pavluks-Trans and FlixBus.
